Duplex Stainless Steel Plate Chemical Composition
Duplex stainless steel plates are mainly composed of chromium, molybdenum, and nickel. Depending on the grade, the ratio of these elements may vary. For instance, 2205 duplex stainless steel contains 22% chromium, 5% nickel, and 3% molybdenum; while 2507 super duplex stainless steel plate contains 25% chromium, 7% nickel, and 4% molybdenum. The addition of other alloying elements such as vanadium, nitrogen and manganese further improves the corrosion resistance properties of the metal.
The combination of chromium and molybdenum gives duplex stainless steel its superior crevice corrosion resistance compared to other alloys. The higher levels of chromium form an invisible layer on the surface of the plate which protects it from environmental damage like salt sprays and acidic chemicals. On the other hand, molybdenum helps to resist pitting corrosion by forming an oxide film that offers additional protection to the underlying material from corrosive compounds in contact with it. Lastly, nickel improves its overall toughness at low temperatures while adding ductility for better formability during fabrication processes.
Due to its specific composition and mechanical properties, duplex stainless steel plate is capable of withstanding extreme environments much better than ordinary steels or austenitic grades. Its exceptional corrosion resistance also makes it suitable for extreme industries such as nuclear power plants where high safety standards must be met. Furthermore, its good mechanical properties provide excellent fatigue strength making it suitable for applications requiring heavy-duty conditions such as pressure vessels or marine equipment where strong components are required to withstand harsh weather conditions without failure under constant use for extended periods.

Duplex steels are becoming increasingly popular in the construction and engineering industries due to their combination of strength and corrosion resistance. Duplex steel pipe is a type of steel pipe that is composed of two different alloy materials – one ferritic, and one austenitic. This combination of alloys creates a stronger, more durable product with increased resistance to corrosion.
Duplex steel pipes are available in a variety of specifications, including wall thicknesses, outside diameters, and grades. The most common grades are 2205 (22% Chromium, 5% Nickel), 2507 (25% Chromium, 7% Nickel), and 904L (19-23% Chromium). These grades have superior mechanical strengths compared to other alloys such as stainless steel and carbon steel, which makes them suitable for use in applications requiring weldability or pressure vessels. In addition, these pipes have high levels of chromium and molybdenum content which helps to give them superior corrosion-resistance properties.
Duplex steel pipes can be used for many applications due to their unique combination of properties. They are commonly used in the oil & gas industry for pipelines since they offer excellent corrosion resistance while also providing good strength and ductility under extreme temperatures. They can also be used in chemical plants where their high levels of acid resistance make them ideal for transporting corrosive liquids. Further applications include marine structures such as shipbuilding due to their ability to resist crevice corrosion from saltwater exposure as well as cooling systems since they exhibit great heat transfer capacity compared to other alloys.
Overall, duplex steel pipe has multiple advantages over other metals due to its unique combination of properties that allow it to act as a strong yet flexible material offering superior corrosion resistance as well as good mechanical strength. Its versatility makes it suitable for many applications where strength and corrosion resistance are desired qualities.

Duplex Steel Pipe Chemical Composition
Duplex steel pipe chemical composition is highly dependent on the grade and specification of the alloy chosen. Generally, these pipes are composed of 19-28% chromium, up to 5% molybdenum, and lower quantities of nickel than austenitic stainless steels. Other elements like nitrogen and copper are also sometimes added to duplex steel pipe for additional corrosion resistance or improved machinability.
Duplex Steel Pipe Application
Duplex steel pipe is used for a variety of applications due to its excellent corrosion resistance, strength, and ductility. Common applications include pipelines in the oil & gas industry, chemical plants transporting corrosive liquids, marine structures like shipbuilding, and cooling systems in power plants.
In the oil & gas industry, duplex steel pipes are often used for critical components such as subsea pipelines due to their superior corrosion resistance and strength which allows them to handle extreme temperatures and pressures. The combination of chromium and molybdenum also makes them resistant to crevice corrosion from saltwater exposure, making them the ideal choice for marine structures. Similarly, they are highly resistant towards acid attack making them suitable for transporting corrosive liquids like acids or caustics in chemical plants. Lastly, their high heat transfer capacity compared to other alloys makes them ideal for use in cooling systems in power plants.
Duplex Steel Fasteners

Duplex steel fasteners are a combination of ferritic and austenitic grades which offer superior corrosion resistance, durability and strength. These types of fasteners are commonly used in industries such as marine, oil & gas, petrochemical processing, offshore engineering and chemical processing. As compared to other common stainless steel alloys, duplex stainless steel fasteners have higher chromium and molybdenum contents which make them more resistant to corrosion.
The combination of these two microstructures offers many benefits for the user such as improved general wear performance; higher fatigue strength under cyclic loading; higher stress corrosion cracking (SCC) resistance; better weldability; excellent formability; improved pitting and crevice corrosion resistance; higher impact strength at low temperatures; increased thermal conductivity and lower coefficient of thermal expansion. Additionally, they can be produced with different surface finishes such as hot dip galvanizing and electro-galvanizing for added protection against corrosive environments.
These fasteners come in a wide range of shapes and sizes including bolts, screws, nuts, rivets and washers. They come in various grades such as 2205 (22% Chromium, 5% Nickel) or 2507 (25% Chromium, 7% Nickel), the latter known as “super duplex” due to their greater corrosion resistance. The use of duplex steel fasteners can also help reduce overall weight due to their lightweight nature while retaining their robustness.

Duplex Steel Fasteners Chemical Composition
Duplex Steel Fasteners Chemical Composition
The chemical composition of duplex steel fasteners plays an important role in their corrosion resistance and strength. These fasteners are composed of high chromium (19–28%) and molybdenum (up to 5%) contents, alongside lower nickel content than austenitic stainless steels. In addition, they often contain alloying elements such as copper, tungsten, titanium and nitrogen which all contribute to the improved properties of these fasteners.
The combination of the high levels of chromium and molybdenum creates a microstructure that consists of both ferritic and austenitic phases – known as a duplex or dual-phase stainless steel. This structure is what enables the fastener to achieve greater mechanical strength, corrosion resistance and durability than other common stainless steels. As chromium is one of the main elements in duplex stainless steel, it increases its ability to resist oxidation when exposed to certain environments. This also leads to increased resistance against pitting and crevice corrosion due to the formation of a protective oxide film on the surface of the metal.
Molybdenum is another critical element in duplex steel fasteners that provides them with superior stress corrosion cracking (SCC) resistance. It helps reduce grain boundary precipitates while also improving weldability and formability for any applications that use these types of fasteners. Other alloying elements such as tungsten help increase wear resistance while nitrogen enhances both toughness and impact strength at low temperatures.
Duplex Steel Fasteners Application
Duplex steel fasteners are used in a variety of industries and applications due to their high strength and excellent corrosion resistance. They are commonly used in the marine, oil & gas, petrochemical processing, offshore engineering and chemical processing industries as they can withstand.
