Duplex Stainless Steel Round Bar is an alloy made up of a combination of austenitic and ferritic steels. These metals have high chromium (19–28%) and molybdenum (up to 5%) content as well as lower nickel content compared to other types of stainless steels. The most popular duplex alloys are 2205 (22% Chromium, 5% Nickel) and 2507 (25% Chromium, 7% Nickel). In particular, 2507 is considered the "super duplex" due to its superior corrosion resistance.
Due to the combination of these two metals, Duplex Stainless Steel Round Bar has a mixed microstructure which gives it numerous advantages over other types of steel. It combines both strength and ductility while retaining good machinability. The alloy also displays excellent corrosion resistance in both reducing and oxidizing environments. Its tensile strength ranges from 550 MPa to 900 MPa making it ideal for applications where high stress is present such as marine environments or chemical plants. Additionally, its thermal conductivity is higher than that of austenitic stainless steel which makes it suitable for use in heat exchangers, pressure vessels or piping systems. Finally, due to its low carbon content, Duplex Stainless Steel Round Bar provides good weldability without risking cracking or porosity issues which may occur when welding other metals.

Duplex Stainless Steel Round Bar Chemical Composition
Duplex Stainless Steel Round Bar is composed of a combination of austenitic and ferritic microstructures, making it an ideal alloy for various applications. Its chemical composition is important to consider when selecting the right material for your project as it directly affects its properties. The primary components of a Duplex Stainless Steel Round Bar are chromium, molybdenum, nickel, nitrogen and iron.
The chromium content ranges from 19%-28%, giving the alloy its superior corrosion resistance properties. Molybdenum makes up to 5% of the alloy and is responsible for increasing strength as well as providing better pitting corrosion resistance than other grades of stainless steel. The nickel content is typically lower in duplex stainless steels compared to austenitic steels, but still provides good oxidation resistance at elevated temperatures. Nitrogen provides additional strengthening of the alloy without adversely affecting its ductility or weldability. Finally, iron makes up the remaining balance and contributes to its magnetic properties.
These characteristics make Duplex Stainless Steel Round Bars ideal for a range of industries such as oil & gas production, marine facilities and chemical processing plants where high-stress or corrosive environments are present. It offers excellent mechanical properties and superior resistance to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) even in chloride-bearing solutions. Additionally, it has good machinability with low thermal expansion which makes it suitable for pressure vessels, piping systems or heat exchanger designs.

Duplex steel fasteners are a combination of ferritic and austenitic grades which offer superior corrosion resistance, durability and strength. These types of fasteners are commonly used in industries such as marine, oil & gas, petrochemical processing, offshore engineering and chemical processing. As compared to other common stainless steel alloys, duplex stainless steel fasteners have higher chromium and molybdenum contents which make them more resistant to corrosion.
The combination of these two microstructures offers many benefits for the user such as improved general wear performance; higher fatigue strength under cyclic loading; higher stress corrosion cracking (SCC) resistance; better weldability; excellent formability; improved pitting and crevice corrosion resistance; higher impact strength at low temperatures; increased thermal conductivity and lower coefficient of thermal expansion. Additionally, they can be produced with different surface finishes such as hot dip galvanizing and electro-galvanizing for added protection against corrosive environments.

The chemical composition of duplex steel fasteners plays an important role in their corrosion resistance and strength. These fasteners are composed of high chromium (19–28%) and molybdenum (up to 5%) contents, alongside lower nickel content than austenitic stainless steels. In addition, they often contain alloying elements such as copper, tungsten, titanium and nitrogen which all contribute to the improved properties of these fasteners.
The combination of the high levels of chromium and molybdenum creates a microstructure that consists of both ferritic and austenitic phases – known as a duplex or dual-phase stainless steel.
